Description
Some scenes only work once Punch has somebody to talk things over with. The Seppel hand puppet by Sterntaler is that friend, with a hat, curly blond hair and a checked shirt with braces.
In traditional German Kasperle theatre, where Punch is called Kasper, Seppel is his friend and companion. In play he works well as the more level-headed of the two, urging caution while Kasper is already rushing ahead. That creates conflict without an antagonist having to appear at all, and even small scenes gain tension.
Did you know that Seppel is a short form of Josef, like Sepp or Seppl in southern German and Austrian dialects? As Kasper’s friend he is a regular in many German Kasperle plays today.
