Halloween puppets for spooky stories

Halloween has its roots in Samhain, the old Celtic festival at the end of October in Ireland and Scotland. Today children in many European countries dress up on 31 October. With a hand puppet, a child can play a spooky character and decide how frightening the story gets.

Monsters that make children laugh

Many of the monsters from Living Puppets and The Puppet Company come in bright colours and look cheeky rather than scary. That makes them a good choice for younger children: the monster can be the one who is afraid of the dark, and the child gets to comfort it.

Witches, wizards and devils from the puppet theatre

In German Kasperle theatre, a close cousin of Punch and Judy, the witch, the wizard and the devil are the usual villains. munabo makes all three as Punch and Judy puppets, and you will also find witches from Kersa and pop-up puppets of the witch and the devil.

Creatures of the night

Bats, owls, ravens and spiders come out after dark, which makes them natural Halloween characters. Folkmanis models them closely on the real animals, from the fruit bat to the great horned owl. Folkmanis and The Puppet Company also make them as finger puppets for small hands.
