Small presents for St Nicholas' Day

In Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium, St Nicholas brings small presents in early December. Finger puppets and baby hand puppets are just the right size for a boot or shoe, and Punch and Judy puppets make a bigger surprise.

St Nicholas’ Day: a European tradition

St Nicholas’ Day falls on 6 December. In Germany and Austria, children put a boot outside the door the evening before and find it filled with nuts, tangerines and a small present in the morning. In the Netherlands, Sinterklaas brings his presents on the evening of 5 December, and in Belgium children find theirs on the morning of the 6th.

Small enough for a boot

Finger puppets and baby hand puppets fit into a boot or shoe with room to spare. If you are buying for brothers and sisters, choose animals from the same series so the children can play together straight away.

The first stop on the way to Christmas

For many families, St Nicholas’ Day is when the Christmas season really starts. A snowman, a reindeer or Santa Claus as a hand puppet can keep the children company for the rest of Advent.

A present for every child in the group

Teachers and nursery staff who want a small present for every child will find finger puppets in a long list of animals. No two children need to get the same one.

If you have a question, call us or use our contact form. Nurseries, schools, care homes and medical and therapy practices can also pay by invoice; we activate this option for your customer account after a review.
