Folkmanis Shark Hand Puppet

You can run but you can’t swim fast enough to evade this awesome predator of the deep. Fortunately, his skin is soft velour and his teeth are vinyl, so even if he catches you, you’ll feel no pain from this cuddly (but fierce!) Shark puppet.

Sharks (Selachii) have roamed the oceans for more than 400 million years, making them older than the first trees. Their skeleton is not bone but flexible cartilage, which keeps them light and agile. The teeth sit in several rows behind one another: when one drops out the next moves forward, and over a lifetime that can add up to tens of thousands. Tiny sensory organs on the snout, the ampullae of Lorenzini, pick up the faintest electrical fields and lead them to prey in murky water. The roughly 500 species range from the palm-sized dwarf lantern shark to the whale shark at over twelve metres.

Did you know that sharks have a unique sixth sense organ called the ampullae of Lorenzini? This organ allows them to sense electrical fields in the water created by potential prey.
