Folkmanis Piggy Hand Puppet

Fresh from the farm it comes trotting in, ready for sweet shenanigans: the Folkmanis piggy hand puppet has a movable mouth and workable forelegs. That makes this little porker the obvious cast member for barnyard tales and farmyard songs.

Piglets are born with their eyes open and a coat of hair, and they find their feet within minutes. A sow usually farrows eight to fourteen young and, given the chance, builds a proper nest from twigs and grass beforehand. Pigs see poorly but rely entirely on nose and ears, recognising familiar people by scent alone. Young animals play tirelessly: they charge about, nudge one another and carry stalks and sticks around the yard. Out on pasture, domestic pigs always site their dunging area well away from where they sleep.

Did you know that pigs were used to find truffles for centuries? The fungus gives off a scent close to that of a boar, so a sow locates it while it is still deep underground. The method had one drawback: she would much rather have kept the prize herself.
