Every animal wears its own pattern of rosettes, as reliable as a fingerprint. Cubs are born blind and spend their first weeks in a hidden den that the mother moves again and again. At around eighteen months they leave for good. Adults hunt alone and haul their kill into a tree, out of reach of lions and hyenas.
Did you know that a leopard can carry prey heavier than itself straight up a trunk? Powerful shoulder and neck muscles make that climb possible. Black panthers, incidentally, are not a separate species but melanistic leopards, or jaguars in the Americas. Their rosettes still show in side light.
