Advent calendar fillers: finger puppets
A finger puppet behind a little door is something to play with, not just to eat. Finger puppets from Folkmanis and The Puppet Company fit into the pockets of a fabric calendar or the little bags of a homemade one.

Advent calendar fillers that come to life
An advent calendar counts down the days to Christmas, and a reusable calendar made of fabric or wood can be filled with something new every year. A finger puppet makes a good filler: it fits behind a small door, and the child can play with it the moment it comes out.
Six puppets are plenty
A calendar does not need 24 finger puppets. Six or eight spread across the month, with sweets or little notes on the other days, are enough, and every new character feels like an occasion.
Building a cast, door by door
Choose characters that belong together and the calendar tells its own story: a farm with a cow, a pig and a sheep, or a wood with a fox, a hedgehog and an owl. By Christmas the child has a whole cast for a first puppet show.
An advent calendar for the classroom
In a nursery or primary class, a different child can open the door each day. The new finger puppet joins the group for circle time and then moves into the play corner. By the end of term, there are puppets for every finger rhyme and song.
