Prince (light blue) - hand puppet for babies by Sterntaler

When someone in a fairy tale sets out to solve a task, defeat a monster or find a missing princess, it is often a king’s son. The prince hand puppet by Sterntaler is exactly that hero. He wears a light blue doublet and a golden yellow crown.

In many of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales, the king’s son must set out first before the story can turn for the better. Often three tasks in a row decide between success and failure – solving a riddle, fetching an object, passing a trial. The king sets the condition, and whoever fulfils it wins the king’s daughter or half the kingdom in the end.

Did you know that in these tales of tasks it is almost never the king’s eldest son who wins? The older brothers usually fail first because they approach the task with impatience or arrogance. The youngest reaches the goal in the end through patience, with outside help or by heeding advice picked up along the way – as in ‘The Golden Bird’ or ‘The Three Feathers’. In some tales he is even called Dummling, the simpleton, and acts more cleverly than his name suggests.
