Horse - hand puppet for babies by Sterntaler

Neighing is one of the first animal sounds children copy – and a figure that throws its head back turns that sound into a conversation. The horse hand puppet by Sterntaler wears a colourful checked neckerchief. Instead of the neckerchief shown, it may also come with a red one with white dots.

The domestic horse (Equus ferus caballus) is the domesticated form of the wild horse and belongs, with donkeys and zebras, to the horse family (Equidae). Breeds differ enormously: animals under 148 centimetres at the withers count as ponies, and weight ranges from the roughly 90-kilogram Falabella to the 1,200-kilogram Shire. Horses are herd animals. The smallest social unit holds three to about 35 individuals in a clear hierarchy. As prey animals they see almost all round, covering some 350 degrees thanks to eyes set at the sides of the head. The permanent set of teeth numbers 36 to 44, and large horses live 20 to 35 years.

Did you know that horses talk with their ears? Pointed forward, the ears signal attention and curiosity; laid flat back against the head, they send an unmistakable signal to keep away. Anyone watching a horse can read its next move from its ears.
