Inspired by the iconic Hungarian breed, this show-ring winner captures the charm of a young pup before its famous corded coat forms. The Komondor is a Hungarian livestock guardian that does not herd sheep and cattle but defends them against wolves. Males stand at least 70 centimetres tall and weigh 50 to 60 kilograms. Its white undercoat and outer hair form broad tassels and cords on their own. They protect against cold, wet and bites and are fully formed by about two years of age, after which they only grow longer. It is wary of strangers and unshakeably loyal to its flock.
Did you know that you can see neither the eyes nor the ears of a Komondor? Both vanish under the coat, which leaves an onlooker little to read the dog's mood from. The white coat has a practical reason: among the sheep the dog hardly stands out, and even at night the shepherd can tell him apart at once – unlike the grey wolf.
