The giant rattlesnake finger puppet is very distinctive in its native environment … and the Folkmanis puppet line. Designed with the signature diamond back in browns of the desert. This rattler has finger pockets for a movable mouth and a rattle in its tail.
The western diamondback (Crotalus atrox) takes its name from the pattern along its back and ranges across the dry country from the south-western United States down into central Mexico. Most adults measure somewhere between one and one and a half metres. It hunts by ambush, holding the same spot for days until a rat or a rabbit crosses, then following the bitten animal by scent. Young are born live, anywhere from seven to two dozen at a time. Many spend the winter together in rock crevices, returning to the same shelter year after year.
Did you know that a newborn rattlesnake cannot rattle at all? It has only a single button on the tail, and not until the second moult does a second segment appear for the first one to knock against. Until then the young rattlesnake travels in silence.
